F-150 Instrument Cluster Upgrade by Year: 1992 to 1997

The most common question we get is some version of "do you make one for my truck". This page answers it.

Work through the five questions below in order. By the end you will know exactly which kit fits, or that we do not make one for your truck yet, which is a straight answer too.

Question 1: which truck do you have?

This splits everything else in two.

  • F-150 or Bronco, gas engine. Our gas kits are listed for 1992 to 1996
  • F-250 or F-350, diesel. Our diesel kits are listed for 1992 to 1997

If you have a 1997 F-150, check your cluster against our gas listings before ordering, or send us a photo. The gas range is listed to 1996 and we would rather tell you it does not fit than have you find out after it arrives.

Question 2: does your cluster have a tachometer?

Only applies to the gas trucks, and it is the question people most often get wrong because they answer from memory rather than looking.

Go and look at the cluster. A tachometer is the round gauge showing engine RPM, usually to the left of the speedometer. Some trucks have one, some have a different gauge in that space.

Get this one wrong and the holes will not line up with your gauges. It is the single most important thing to check.

Question 3: XL or XLT?

Gas trucks again. The cluster layout differs between trim levels, so we make both.

If you are not certain which you have, the badge on the truck is a starting point, but the cluster is what matters. Photograph it and send it over if you want us to confirm before you buy.

Question 4: MPH or km/h?

Most kits are MPH. We do make a km/h version of the diesel Original kit for Canadian trucks.

Check your existing speedometer face and match it. A kit in the wrong units is technically installable and permanently annoying.

Question 5: which style do you want?

This is the only question on the list that is purely down to taste. All styles fit the same, they just look different.

  • Original. Factory appearance, cleaned up. The choice if you want it to look like it left the factory that way
  • Sport. A more modern face for a truck that is not being kept stock
  • Midnight. Darker treatment, available on the diesel kits

Quick reference

What if we do not make one for your truck?

Two situations come up regularly.

8th gen (1987-1991) and 10th gen. We do not make these yet. There is a waiting list and joining it is the fastest way to hear when they are ready. It also tells us which generations to build next, so it is worth doing even if you are not sure you will buy.

Anything outside 1992 to 1997. Not on the roadmap right now. The waiting list is still the right place to register interest.

While the cluster is out

The cluster only comes out once if you plan properly. Three things are far easier to do while it is on the bench than after it is back in the dash:

  • LED backlighting. Original bulbs dim with age and the difference at night is the thing people comment on most. LED backlight kits
  • A new lens. Thirty year old lenses are usually hazed, scratched, or both. A fresh faceplate behind a cloudy lens is a waste
  • Needle paint. Faded orange needles against a new face look exactly as tired as they are

All three are in the cluster accessories collection.

Changed your tire size or gearing?

If you have gone up in tire size or changed axle ratio, your speedometer is reading wrong and a new faceplate will not fix that. Our 92-96 speedometer calibration calculator works out the right speedo gear. Free, no sign up.

Still not sure?

Send us a photo of your cluster. It takes us thirty seconds to tell you what fits, and it saves you ordering the wrong thing. We would rather answer the question than process a return.
